What do you think of social network sites (i.e. MySpace, Facebook or Formspring) for kids 14 and younger? Do you think they are safe?

I think they are safe for teenagers, but probably not for the kids under 13-14. If a kid is smart, raised by you according to your views and rules, I don't think there is any danger in that.

The main reason for concern here is that kids make online friends who could very well be an online predatore with assumed identity. It is crucial to guide your children properly on dos and donts when accessing social networking sites, and be open about such things in genereral.

The thing about social networks is, yeah, you can see what your child is posting, but there's no way for you to know what they've been viewing or exposed to. Instagram, for example, has a lot of content that kids under 14 shouldn't be looking at. I think 14 or 15 is an ok age for kids to start on using social networks..
