With my first I had a 3rd degree tear, for no apparent reason. I was fully dilated and it still took me 2hours to push him out. He was 3,7kg , so kind of normal size I would say, so big for 3 weeks early. He was in a good position and the midwife did a episiotomy when he just wouldn�t come out. I did a perineal massage for at least 6 weeks before birth and I still had a bad tear.
After I had him they said if I have to give birth again they will offer me an elective c-section, but I want a natural birth again, just want to find out how likely it is to tear so badly again. I couldn't walk properly for 2 weeks and even after that was in a lot of pain if I had to walk longer walks up to 8 weeks after and still was in slight pain till 6 months after.
Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

With my first The Dr gave me an almost 4th degree cut. My next 2 babies were born at home with no tears or cuts at all. And they were both over 9lbs!

I did tear with my second, but the tear was minor compared to my first 4 degree tear.

I tore a little with my fisrs two babies, and both times only 2 stitches were required. My last baby was larger, so they performed an epistomy. I was surprised that my recovery from it was faster and easier than from natural tears.They say it's usually the other way around.

Yes. I heard that two, but a friend of mine also noticed that epistomy gave her a faster and easier recovery.
