The Abbey is a living church as well as an architectural masterpiece. Known as the House of Kings, the Abbey is the final resting place of seventeen monarchs including Henry III, Henry V, and Henry VII, as well as Elizabeth I and her half-sister Mary I ('Bloody Mary').The Abbey has been the setting of Coronations since the time of William the Conqueror in 1066 and is home to the Coronation Chair. It has also witnessed numerous other royal occasions including weddings and funerals.Many famous poets, scientist, musicians, and statesmen are memorialised here and the grave of the Unknown Warrior is to be found in the Nave.
A Children's Trail is available free at the information desk as you enter the Abbey, and children are able to dress up as monks in the Museum.
