On the topic of looking for parents to participate in an exciting opportunity:

I am a second-year Geography student studying at the University of Oxford and am currently in the process of conducting research for my dissertation. I am looking for parents with one or more children under the age of 7 to conduct a 45-minute online interview in July (NB: all children must be under the age of 7 please!). I will be aiming to understand what your experience as new parents has been like, focusing on changes in habits, values and motivations. Just wondering how often/many visits to expect over what duration? I've heard good and bad about the individuals involved, though I agree with the idea in principle. We have no such system where I'm from, so I'm curious about what is involved.

HI,

Saw the health visitor today and T has only put on 3 oz in two weeks. He is entirely breast fed at present. Has a history of being a little underweight, but above the 9th percentile, generally following his own little line (apart from when we all had the norovirus).Health Visitor is putting me under pressure to give baby rice. T is not swallowing food yet, just playing. He is not six months till 15th Feb, but I am still feeding on demand mainly every 3-4 hours day and night. How do I get some calories into him and do I need to? Can/should I give him baby rice just on his tray?
How can I convince the HV I am not a loon? How can I get him sleeping 6 hours or so just to give me a break? He did sleep 6-7 hours before he had the norovirus the week before Christmas.

Please help.

Can anyone tell me where I can stock cubes to add to baby food? My last baby I used annabel karmel stock cubes, that had no salt but the shop has stopped doing them. The closest are organic stock cubes called kallo, the ingredients say sea salt, I wonder if these are safe to use.

I started weaning my 6 month old last weekend and have given her a variety of finger foods so far but her coordination isn't very good and she finds it hard to get things in her mouth. Normally her fist or fingers are going in her mouth instead of the food. She is really keen to eat and if I hold it for her she will lean forwards and suck or try to ear the food. How can I encourage her to pick it up herself? Is it ok to hold it for her or will it cause problems in the long run? She gets very frustrated when she can't eat the food herself.

My maternity leave & Paid Parental leave finishes at the end of Jan, and I've joined currently 6 month old DD in childcare. She will be one week shy of 7 months when she starts. Any sort of advice we've been given however, is that she's too young, or that she's too small. Should I be waiting a few months more? I realise this is quite a sensitive topic, but I am concerned about her age and would like some reassurance from mums who've done the same.

Okay, so when I first heard the phrase "health visitor", I thought wow, that's really cool -- they send a nurse around to your house after you have a baby, reassure you your baby is fine, ask how you're doing, maybe make you a cup of tea and a scone (okay, maybe not the last part). But the more I hear the more it sounds like a nosy neighbor telling you what it was like when she had her kids back in 1979. And then it sounds like they don't even come to you? How is that a "visitor"?So clearly I'm totally confused. Can someone explain what a health visitor is and what they're supposed to do?

Hi everyone-- this is my first forum post!

A little back story: I still nurse my now fifteen month son, and was not getting my monthly periods for a while or ovulating. In late August, the obgyn prescribed prosgesterone pills for ten days and then three days afterwards, my period came Sept. 1st until the 5th. I then found out through a blood test that I had ovulated this month, but I do not know when. I have had sex with my partner the week that I might have ovulated. Well, yesterday, I felt I was leaking and come to wipe, I found watery, brown discharge. It is now the second day and it has only been dark brown, not enough to fill a tampon or pad. At night, there was a bit of red but this morning, my pad was once again not full and dark brown. I've had implantation bleeding with my first pregnancy so now, I don't know if that is what Im experiencing. The blood work I did that indicated I had ovulated said I'd get my period within two weeks. My expected period is Oct. 1st. Could this be an actual wacky period from the after effects of last month's progesterine pills, is my monthly period a shortened cycle (not even the average 28 days) or could I be pregnant? I tested the past two days and they were negative. I don't know if it is too soon. My doctor told me to call when my period arrives and ignored the possibility of implantation bleeding even though they said I would receive my period in two weeks or would be pregnant. Has this happened to anyone else? What were your experiences?

There seems to be an increasingly demanding use of technology from childrens of all ages.

How did everyone start giving their children use of technology and how did they control how much time they use on it? Any interesting stories to tell?

I am currently struggling with getting my child off the tablet and start playing with toys rather than staring at a screen for hours and when I try to stop her, she starts fussing!

My girl had some issues after the divorce and one day she saw some gymnastic competition, one girl was dressed in that nice leotards for gymnastics and she wanted to have one. I took her to our local gym and consulted with a trainer. He was thrilled to help a kid this way. What activities are you guys getting your kids into when having hard times?
